It's a parody of Super Mario Bros., where Mario is a hilariously over-the-top angry Italian man with a sailor's mouth. Mario is portrayed as a cantankerous brute prone to insulting and abusing almost everyone around him. Sonic isn't free from this either. Sure he calls the cops on Mario for yelling at Peach, but he isn't above "violating" her himself.
