Every day, Ghana produces more than 12 ,000 tons of solid waste, according to the World Bank's 2019 report on waste management in Africa. Yet, only a fraction of this is properly collected and disposed of. The rest are left in open spaces, drains, and water bodies, threatening public health and the environment. But solutions do exist. Across Ghana, innovative approaches are emerging. Some entrepreneurs are transforming plastic waste into pavement blocks and school furniture. At places like Kotei R/C Basic School, Creative strategies such as postings, flyers, and drama sketches are being used to educate student about proper waste disposal. By engaging young minds through virtual communication, the message of recycling, reusing, and responsible waste handling becomes part of their daily lives. Solid waste management is not just about keeping our streets clean. It is about safeguarding health, protecting the environment, and building a sustainable economy. If we all play our parts, reducing, reusing, and recycling, Ghana can transform its waste challenge into a success story.
